remedial classes

I think the remedial classes in college should be cheaper. It's not the students' fault if their highschool teachers aren't giving them their proper education. Some teachers "baby" their students. They make it so easy to get an "A" in the class, which in turns give a false impression to the students that they're smart and on track. Highschool teachers aren't preparing their students. The remedial classes are costing colleges billions of dollars, when it should not.

cyber-bullying

I think the new law to stop cyber bullying is great. There should've been one a long time ago. there are so many people harmed, some even lose their lives. Youths today are always on the web, and that's where most of the bullying are now done. Bullies think they can get away with it, but they can't. I always take bullying as a serious crime. Being raised in North Carollina helped me realized this. I winessed a guy, who was one of less than 15 asian students at my old school, being bullied. The bullying was partly because he was asian. and I being asian felt it (bullying) veered towards me.

Ch 4 project How to solve problems with trigonometry

In Ch. 4 we learned about the 6 trigonometric functions. They arose from ratios formed within a right triangle. There's sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant, and cotangent. We could use these functions to find missing angles, height, distance, length, and even the hypotenuse. The type of problem I made up was an indirect measurement. I solved the problem by using the trigonometric functions I learned from Ch. 4.

Ch P, Applying linear equation to 2 variables

Ch P is mainly about linear equations. Linear equations come in different forms. There's pt- slope form, (y-y1)=m(x-x1), where you use the slope and one pt in the graph to find the equation. Another, and the most commonly used is the slope-intercept form, y=mx+b. Y equals the vertical position of a pt.(y-axis), x equals the horizontal position of a pt.(x-axis), and b is the y-intercept.

Graphing Functions

I drew the function y=x^2, which is the parent graph and the one in black. I made five different transformation to the original one. I made a horizontal shift 3, to the right in green. And a vertical shift 2, downwards in blue. I combined the two translations to get y=(x-3)^2-2, which is in red. I then, made a reflection of the graph, which is basically a transformation over the x-axis.

During back to school night, I taught my mom how to make the same y=x^2 graph, but with different translation. The first thing I told her to do was to trace the parent graph on a patty paper, immediately she recognized it as a parabola. I taught her how to do a vertical and horizontal shift and how to read the functions. At the end i was surprised she actually understood all of it. Throughout my whole life, I had always asked my dad for help on homework, i guess i should ask my mom more often.

About Me

My name is Kerri, and I'm a junior at Oakland High. When I was 5 I moved to North Carolina and was raised in Burlington, a small suburban city with no buses at all, imagine how thats like, being on your best behavior so that your parents will take you places. I moved back to CA last year. At first i was really sad that I had to leave my friends and family (on my dad's side), but with all the new technology out there I'm very grateful that I could communicate with them all. And oakland isn't as bad as I thought. The one thing I like about Oakland is the diversity. The first day I came I had a cultural shock because there was so many asians. It's pretty funny because I'm asian too. For the first time in like forever, I could here people speaking mien and they're not family!!!
