Chapter 5 Project: How to Do Determining the Number of Triangles in the Ambuguous case (SSA): A Contruction Exploration

In this exploration we copied angles using a compass and protratcor and tried froming triangles with acute and obtuse angles and different sides our conclusion are:
Angle A is obtuse:
BC>AB one triangle
BC=AB zero triangles


Angle A is Acute:
AC>BC>h two triangles
BC>AC>h one triangle
BC=h one triangle

Redemial College Classes Cost Millions

This is a very eye opening article. I think that I am a pretty good student that ahas a very high GPA and now reading this article it has got me thinking that maybe when I go to college instead of getting A's I will be getting F's. However I am happy that I read this article because it is important for high school students to know that they need to take harder classes so that hey are prepared for college. I am taking a lot of AP and HP classes and I will continue to take them so I am prepared for college. It is very important that students know that an A in high school does not mean and A in college. I think school should try to fit the standards of college a lot more closely and expect higher of us because if they don;t we will be stuck taking remedial classes which are a waste of time and money because you should have learned the material in high school. I think student should have higher expectation of them selves and teacher should have higher standards so that when we go to college the standards and curriculum aren't a surprise to us.

Cyber Bullying

I am very happy that this law has passed because I think it is wrong for someone to take the identity of someone they don't like and use it to say bad things online. The person might not even know what is happening until they apply for a job or for college and they are not accepted because of getting their identity stole. I also feel happy that people who are cyber-bullying are going to get punished, because cyber-bullying often leads to suicide. Because you don't know who it is people feel more confident to say really nasty things that they otherwise wouldn't say face to face. This is worse than any other bullying because you don't know who it is and it damages your reputation for the whole world to see. I am happy people are putting a stop to this, because people already deal with enough problems in their lives they don't need more drama. It is important to stop this form of bullying because if we don;t it will escalate into something that will be hard to stop. I hope that this makes people stop and think before they bully someone on the web. People need to realize that this is a serious crime.

Chapter 4 Project: solving Word Problems with Trigonometry

In Chapter 4 we learned about the six trig functions:

  1. opposite/hypotenuse=sine
  2. adjacent/hypotenuse=cosine
  3. opposite/adjacent=tangent
  4. hypotenuse/opposite=cosecant
  5. hypotenuse/adjacent=secant
  6. adjacent/opposite=cotangent
You can use an angle measure to determine a missing site of your triangle. For example if you have 12ft length and an angle that is 30 degrees and the 12ft is opposite from the andgle and x is adjacent to the angle you can use tan(30)=12/x to find x. We also learned how to use the Unit Circle to find the measure of sides of triangles by using the 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 triangles.We use trig functions when working out word problems dealing with angles of depression which is when you look down and angles of elevations when you look up. You can also solve inderect mesure which is the word problem I made up using the angles odd depression.

Capter 1: ProjectExploration: Diagonals of a Regular Polygon

Chapter one focuses on modeling which is a mathematical structure that approximates phenomena for predicting the behavior of something. There are three main models numerical using numbers, algebraic using variables and numbers and graphical models using a graph. In this project I will be finding which function, a linear, quadratic, cubic or quartic, bits fit our scatter plot for the number of diagonals polygons have. We will use by finding the r coefficient is the measure of how the function best fits the points.

Ch. P Project - Applying Linear Equation in Two Variables

In chapter P the book talks about Linear Equations which are strait lines and only cross the y-axis and x-axis once. Whose general form is Ax+By+C=O. Which you can use to find the
y-intercept (o,y) and x-intercept (x,0). The general form of the linear equation can be transformed to different forms: slope-Intercept form-y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept of the equation and are constant, and point-slope form:
y - y 1 = m(x - x 1 ). You use the slope-intercept form to plug it in your graphing calculator and graph it.

In this project, I chose to find a linear model for American's personal income and find out the values in certain years. I used the slope-intercept form to write out the equation and below is my work and graph of my equation.

CH. P - How to Do Graphing Functions



1. First I sketched the basic function which was y=x^2 also known as the parent function. It is drawn with the color black.
2. Then I did a vertical translation by moving six units up the y-axis resulting in the equation y=x^2+6. The graph of this equation is in red.
3. Next I did a horizontal translation by moving four units to the right on the x-axis and that resulted in y=(x-4)^2. The graph of this equation is in blue.
4. Then I did a reflection across the x-axis and my equation turned up to be y=-x^2. The graph of this equation is in purple.
5. Then I combined my vertical and horizontal translations and so my new equation turned up to be y=(x-4)^2+6. The graph of this equation was in green.
6. Finally I combined my vertical and horixontal translations with my reflection across the x-axis and I got this equation y=-(x-4)^2+6. The graph is in black.
Overall I performed five transformations since I changed the basic function five times and got five differnt equations from the basic function: y=(x-4)^2, y=-x, y=x^2+6, y=(x-4)^2+6, and y=-(x-4)^2+6.

Background: I attended Bella Vista for elementary school and Edna Brewer for middle school. I am currently a junior at Oakland High. I have volunteered at my church (St. Anthony) as an alter server for four years. I do a lot of volunteer work at Oakland High, and I am in Link Crew and we always help at registration and in the school. I volunteered for UNICEF and other various organizations.
What I Want To Be When I Grow Up: I want to be an author, lawyer, or a business women.
Interest: I like to read and write. I read almost every day or every chance I get. I like to hang out with my friends and go on the computer.
